The beard FAQ

The quality response that I should probably give to most people:

This beard is a way to challenge myself every single day. It acts as a simultaneous exploration of self and ongoing social experiment. The people you who love it will tell you. The people who don’t will probably just keep it to themselves (unless they’re my parents, ha!). For me, it’s a reminder of the paradoxical state that we all experience as human existence. We are so often caught between opposites and asked to identify with one or the other.

I’ve been doing it for about 3 years in total.

(when I’m not in the mood):

  • Q: Did you lose a bet? A: I’ve lost many bets.

  • Q: Does it mean something? A: (Snarky) What do you think it means?

  • Q: Is it okay if I ask you about your facial hair? A: You already have.

  • Q: Which side do you like more? A: The front side.

  • Q: I saw you from one side and then I saw you from the other. I thought you were two different people! A: That’s not a question.

  • Q: You should shave half your head! A: You should shave your face.

The name:

"Musixian" is actually a combination of my name and "musician" - my name is Christian (which can be written as xian).  Anyway. I think I'm clever.

The guy behind the name:

I didn't want to be a musician.

I spent years denying my desire to create music because, quite simply, I didn't think I could make any money at it. I got my degree in music at a small school in Massachusetts, but upon graduating decided that although I didn't know what I wanted to do, music was not that thing. Fast forward 5 years, and I decide to let music back into my life by joining a choir. I now spend the majority of my time writing and practicing new songs and performing them at open mics.

I have yet to release an album, but I promise that there is one (or three) in the works. I am so excited to share this music with you. It has, over the past 2 years, changed my entire outlook on life. I hope it can do the same for others.

5infinity:

The origin of the beard. 5infinity is the point at which we exist, halfway between nothing and everything. You might see the symbol in videos or on products - it’s simply a reminder of my guiding philosophy - that all exists in balance between opposites, and that existence itself is paradoxical and deeply beautiful.
